To provide your child with the best possible education, Arizona has adopted the Lexile Reading System. This system is a developmental approach that gives a range for each grade level of what your child should be capable of reading.
In the first few weeks of school, I will be testing your child to determine their current abilities. You will then receive a letter with information on the reading level of your child. I will also attach information from the Department of Education to further assist you in understanding the Lexile System. If the information somehow did not make it home, you can find the information at: Arizona Lexile Framework Lexile Reading Color and Grade Scale |
Parents often wonder if the book that they are bringing home is at the appropriate level for them to read. I do my best to ensure that each student is choosing books at the "just right" level for him/her. However, occasionally things do get past me or a child has asked to read at a higher or lower level.
Each level is color coded and I have designed my classroom library to match these codes for easy reference for students. Each student has been advised of the color(s) appropriate for his/her reading level. The websites below are a great resource for finding books in your child's "just right" level. I have color coded the links below for your convenience.
